The Unwinding Road (launching Autumn 2017) is the debut edition of Fantasy Quarterly. Writers are asked to respond to one or both of these prompts:
1) Authors and scientists: The evolving nature of "magic" and "science fiction". As science continues to advance sometimes faster than our own imaginations, things once considered magic have already become hard science in the present day. In our lifetimes, we are likely to continue seeing this change. How, as fantasy novelists, can we imagine bigger, bolder magic? How can we compete with the rapid progress of real life science? How can we contribute to that science, as visionaries of our own future? And how will the fantasy worlds that we craft change as a result of scientific breakthroughs in our own historical era?
2) Guild members: Submit your short fantasy fiction! We want to showcase our very first season of Guild Initiates and the wonderful writing that you are already putting out there in the world. Your work comes at a critical time for us, and you can really help move our Guild into the public spotlight. Make sure to send us your very best works!
If you're a writer not yet enrolled in the Guild, worry not, it's free to join at the basic membership level. Go ahead and send in your submission and just make a note at the top that you'd like to be added to the Guild's basic index.
Authors are welcome to submit serial publications, articles, short stories, novellas, or parceled novels to MRB@FantasyWritersGuild.com for review. Our cronies will sort through submissions and get back to you ASAP!
Aims to become nothing less than the premier academic and creative journal for fantasy and science fiction writing. We encourage both fiction and non-fiction submissions, and host discussions on real-world subjects as well as fictitious and theoretical worlds. We aim to mix fiction with nonfiction at a 1:1 ratio for every quarterly publication. Each quarter has it's own special theme, so be sure to come back and check up with us again every few months!
